Usually, I soak dishes: at the least, for 30 minutes to 1chour in Clorox to sterilize them. After soaking, I wash the dishes; then dry them and seal them in a plastic bag with a FoodSaver vacuum sealer to prevent further microbial contamination from the air.
It may be well to soak the dishes; after rinsing 3 times, with boiling water for 5 minutes; then wash them and dry them. Remember, if you have black soil in your area, you have botulism germs. The botulism is extremely toxic to most lifeforms; but mildly to humans.
